Reflection

How to Run

Have the Section reflect on a time away from home and how they felt, try and have the Section explain why they felt this way and reflect on their feelings (ensure wellbeing is considered and no one is pressured to talk about anything they do not wish to) Have the Section reflect on how Seafarers who go on long voyages might feel similar emotions. Have the Section discuss how they could cheer up a homesick seafarer.

With these ideas the section can create a shoebox which can actually go out to real Seafarers. These boxes can be full of postcards with well wishes, art work, knitted items to keep the Seafarers warm out at Sea, donated non-perishable items like books! Each young person can make their own but we suggest they work in teams to fill a shoe box and decorate the box together with things that make them happy!

Once you have created the happy shoe boxes and if you’d like to have them given to Seafarers please contact your local Mission to Seafarers location or email admin@scoutscymru.org.uk and we can point you in the right direction!

What You Need

  • Arts and Crafts Materials
  • Postcards
  • Knitting Materials
  • Writing Materials
  • Anything else you can think of that they may wish to put in the box!

Ahoy there!! I hope you’re enjoying your time onboard. As you know I’m captain of this ship and therefore I look after all the crew on board. I’ve noticed that on this long journey that many of my crew members are missing home and could do with some cheering up!

Can you help me cheer up my crew?

Your tasks:

  • Think about a time away from home on Scout Camps and how you felt. Think about how this compares to Seafarers away at sea.
  • Make a shoe box with things that could cheer up a Seafarer who’s away from home
