The Cook
Cooking Skills
Goodness! It’s great to see you young crewmates, you’re a sight for sore eyes! You see, I’ve been worrying all day about what to make our crew for dinner as I’ve lost the menu for tonight!!
For this mission could you please help me decide a menu and cook up something healthy for our hard-working crew?
How to Run
The group should be split in half, each half should be given 4 or 5 different foods and the countries they come from, the groups will then have to match the foods with the countries. You should also give the groups the distances to those countries and they should match those up with the countries as well. Once everything has been correctly matched you should explain that the distance to the countries is the distance that the foods have travelled and that this is called food miles. Now as a group they should come up with a new creative recipe using the foods they have been given.
What You Need
- A selection of foods from around the world (avocados, pizza, chocolate, bananas etc)
- Pieces of paper with the countries on (can just be written or pictures of the countries)
- The rough distances from Wales to those countries (written on pieces of paper.
- Pens and paper for them to write down their new recipes
